The preliminary screenings were viewed by two sub-committees headed by art director Nemom Pushparaj and filmmaker KM Madhusoodanan. The duo along with actress Gauthami, cameraman Hari Nair, singer Jency Gregory and sound designer D Yuvaraj constituted the seven-member panel. A total of 154 films were viewed by the jury members, with 49 of these making it to the final round. “Out of the 49 films, 19 were helmed by debutants and that’s an encouraging sign for Malayalam cinema,” said Minister of Culture Saji Cheriyan.
