Revolutionary balladeer and renowned folk singer Gaddar passed away in Hyderabad at a private hospital on August 6 while undergoing treatment for heart related ailment.A household name in the two Telugu states, Gaddar, who was born as Gummadi Vithal Rao in Toopran of Medak district in 1949, is known for his revolutionary songs. His contribution to people’s movements in the combined Andhra Pradesh during the peak of the Naxal movement fetched him a cult status among the Telugu-speaking population.
Renowned Telangana folk singer and balladeer Gaddar, who was popularly known for his revolutionary songs during the 1980s and later during the Telangana statehood agitation, passed away here on Sunday due to ill-health. He was 77.Born as Gummadi Vittal Rao at Toopran in Medak district in 1949, the renowned folk singer and poet went on to become popular as ‘Gaddar’.

Gaddar died at Apollo Spectra Hospital in the city due to lung and urinary problems and advanced age, the hospital said in a statement. He was suffering from severe heart disease and got admitted on July 20. He underwent a bypass surgery on August 3 and recovered from it, the hospital said.However, he has had a history of lung and urinary problems, which along with advanced age, became aggravated and led to his passing, it said.
His body was taken to L B Stadium in the city to enable people to pay their last respects. The funeral will take place on Monday.Tributes poured in condoling the death of the balladeer.Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, her Haryana counterpart Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, top Congress leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as well as TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and several other leaders from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh expressed grief at Gaddar’s demise.

Gaddar had attended a Congress public meeting addressed by Rahul Gandhi at Khammam in Telangana on July 2.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy called Gaddar a revolutionary man. “He was the voice of the downtrodden and fought for social justice through his inspiring songs,” Reddy said in a statement, and conveyed his condolences to the singer’s family members.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu also posted on Twitter about the passing away of the popular singer, who is equally famous in both the Telugu states and popular for his revolutionary ballads.

He had been unwell and admitted to Apollo hospital, Jubilee Hills where he breathed his last while undergoing the treatment. Gaddar was suffering from heart-related ailment. He got admitted for heart surgery. But succumbed to the ailment. He was 75-year-old.
Gaddar’s original name is Gummadi Vital Rao. He was born in 1948 in Toopran of Hyderabad state then. He was quite active in Naxal Movement in the united Andhra Pradesh state. He worked in the cultural wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist – Leninist). He was active in the movement till 2010. Later, Gaddar joined the Telangana statehood movement. He identified himself as Ambedkarite. He even floated his own political party Telangana Praja Front but he couldn’t succeed in politics.
Several leaders of Telangana expressed their grief over the sudden demise of Gaddar. Recently, Janasena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan met Gaddar in the hospital. Gaddar’s demise came as a shocking news.
