A day off has also been declared for students of classes Nursery to fifth in all government and government-aided schools under the Directorate of Education in Delhi, as per a release. These orders come after the Delhi government directed the closure of schools for Monday in view of incessant rainfall. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement in this regard came while weather projections said that the national capital will continue to see more downpour.
“In view of the heavy rainfall and the alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding adverse weather conditions in Delhi, it has been decided that all MCD schools, MCD Aided, and Recognised schools will remain closed for students on 11.07.2023 for the well-being of our students in light of the inclement weather conditions,” the order read.
“Students must be informed, well in advance, about the closure of the schools on 11.07.2023 (Tuesday) so that they do not venture out. However, all HoSs and teachers shall come to schools as usual. All offices shall also be working,” it added.

A similar circular was released for government schools where students of Nursery to Class 5 have been given a holiday tomorrow.
Heavy rains have led to the closing of schools across several states in India. Right from landslides in hilly states such as Himachal Pradesh to flooding and water logging causing congestion in numerous cities, including Delhi and Gurgaon, students have been affected the most. Their education has been disrupted. Punjab closed schools on July 10 due to the torrential rains. The re-appear examination for classes 5th and 8th has also been postponed. Delhi-NCR recorded the maximum rainfall in a single day in the last 41 years. Holidays have been declared in schools across Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram today.
Due to extreme weather conditions and persistent rainfall causing disruptions in daily life, several states across the country have been compelled to declare impromptu school holidays. States like Punjab, Haryana, and Kerala announced a holiday for students today.

As a precautionary measure, the Himachal government ordered the closure of all state government schools and colleges for two days, Monday (July 10) and Tuesday (July 11).
Delhi recorded 153 mm of rain in 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday, the highest in a single day in July since 1982. The national capital recorded 107 mm of precipitation till 8.30 am on Monday.
The Yamuna crossed the danger mark of 205.33 metres in Delhi on Monday as torrential rains pummelled the upper catchment areas of the river for the third day on the trot. The river breached the danger mark earlier than expected. It was predicted that it would cross the danger mark by Tuesday afternoon.
