Throwing light on “on-the-job learning”, Modi noted the special emphasis given to it by several countries and highlighted the efforts of his government in providing focused internships and apprenticeships to ensure ”outside-the-classroom exposure” for youngsters.Today, there are about 75,000 employers on the National Internship Portal, where the requirements for 25 lakh internships have been posted so far,” he informed. The prime minister urged the industry and educational institutions to make maximum use of the portal and further expand the culture of internship in the country.

He expressed the belief that apprenticeships will make the country’s youngsters future-ready and help the industries identify the workforce with the right skills.PM Modi spoke via a webinar which was the third in a series of 12 post-budget webinars organised by the government to seek ideas and suggestions for the effective implementation of the initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2023-24.

Talking about the Union Budget, the prime minister highlighted a provision for a stipend that has been made available for about 50 lakh youngsters under the National Apprenticeship Promotion scheme.It is creating an environment for apprenticeships and also helping the industry in payments. The world is looking at India as a manufacturing hub and there is enthusiasm in the world about investing in the country.

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 will skill, re-skill and upskill lakhs of youngsters in the coming years. Tailor-made programmes are being made according to the needs of tribals, differently-abled people, and women through this scheme.

The National Institution for Transforming India, or NITI Aayog, is a new Indian Central Government department. Previously, the Planning Commission was in charge of developing all reforms and programs. The central government then entrenched the NITI Aayog in its place. This department is in charge of scheme research and development. NITI Aayog recently offered students the opportunity to participate in internship programs through its various departments. The National Institution for Transforming India, or NITI Aayog, is a new Indian Central Government department. Benefits Of NATs Program

There are many benefits of the national apprenticeship training program which is available for the students of the country:-

• The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme in India is a one-year program for all students.
• It gives technical qualifications to the youth of the country.
• The program gives practical knowledge and skills that are required in their field of work.
• The Apprentices are imparted training by the organizations at their place of work.
• Trained Managers with well-developed training modules ensure that Apprentices learn the job quickly and competently.
• During the period of apprenticeship, the apprentices are paid a stipend amount, 50% of which is reimbursable to the employer from the Government of India.

Just like other internships, Niti aayog careers have their eligibility criteria. Let’s discuss it in detail. 

• An applicant should be above the age of 16 years.
• The applicant must have a degree/diploma certificate.
• The applicants who are already trained under any other Government training program of skill development are not eligible under this scheme.
• An Applicant should not be self-employed
• The applicant must not be a Government employee.
• The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
• An applicant must not have work experience.

The scheme is only for students

Only students will be able to qualify for the internship program under the scheme. Academic students pursuing a degree in undergraduate, Graduation, post-graduation, or any research-based academic line will be eligible to participate in this internship program.

Internship age limit 

Though there is no internship age limit described for Niti aayog internship, a person must be a student to apply for an internship. 

Internship period

The scheme also emphasises that each trainee will only be there for six weeks. If the department head believes there is a need, the apprenticeship can be enlarged for three months.

Internship completion certificate

When the internship is finished, all participants will be given a certificate from the appropriate department. It is not guaranteed that they will get a job within this department, but it will add some clout to their academic credentials.

• The interested applicants may apply online only on the website
• The application can only be made six months in advance but not later than 2 months before the month in which the internship is desired.
• Applicants must also clearly indicate the area of interest.
• Please Note: A candidate can apply for an internship only once during a financial year.
• The selected applicant has to produce original mark sheets and NOC from the college/institution at the time of joining, failing which his/her candidature shall be canceled. (Format given in Annexure ‘C’ of the official notification).
