As Wenatchee students return to our classrooms, cafeterias, fields, and playgrounds, we welcome them with open arms and know that we must lead with our heads, hearts, and hands. Students come to us with unique lived experiences, at different starting points and in need of individualized attention. Our student’s differences are assets, not liabilities.
Our learning recovery plan is forward-thinking and focuses on each student, the quality of their learning, and their outcomes. This means not slowing down or looking back at lost ‘seat time’ stolen by a global pandemic but rather stepping on the gas and removing barriers so each student can achieve their full potential.

learning recovery programme odisha
The state government is planning to start a learning recovery plan (LRP) to help recover the educational losses of students due to the prolonged closure of schools during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) of the state is working on the course module and developing study materials and planning activities for the programme, which will be launched from the next academic session of 2022-23.
The learning loss of children due to closure of schools for nearly two years is a matter of concern. Many of them could not attend online classes due to various reasons. The learning recovery plan will help in bringing the gap or loss of children and help them recoup studies, said Anupam Saha, state Project Director, OSEPA.
Objectives
- To implement a refresher, course for the Odia-medium students of Class III – IX in Govt. Schools / Govt. aided schools
- To minimize the impact of lost learning among the students
- To boost the confidence level of students for mainstreaming in the current academic session..

OSEPA has sent the proposal to the state government for final approval. We have got the green signal for preparing study modules and materials for the plan, but it has not yet been decided when it will be launched. We had earlier planned to launch it during summer vacation so that the time can be used, though it won’t be enough to cover the losses of the last two years. But it is up to the government to decide, he added.
In view of the OSEPA’s LRP, the State government has already curtailed summer vacation by a month to conduct extra-classes from May, the beginning of a new academic session, and teach students about key chapters of their previous classes to improve their learning standards.
The official further said a year-long plan has been worked out as one month will be too less to recover the learning loss of students. The baseline survey of OSEPA carried out between October 25 last year and March 11, 2022 has found alarming level of learning loss among students of Class I to VIII in key subjects – Odia, English and mathematics. Nearly 40 per cent students have not been able to secure above 20 per cent marks.
